GAYNGS’ vocalist Channy
Casselle and Producer Ryan Olson bring together their love of
electronic adventurism with pop sensibilities and soulful vocals on
their latest project Polica. Give You the Ghost is a playground of textured synthesizers, processed
vocals and electronic sound-scapes with tracks like “The Maker” a
staple of the album’s lush sound with Casselle’s soulful yet over
produced vocals and programmed drums. Bon Iver’s Mike Noyce makes a
cameo on two of the duo’s tracks including “Lay Your Cards Out” adding
vocals to the rich swirling synth, R&B rhythms that’s tweeked and
contorted by Olson for a track that’s both cinematic and hypnotizing in
its sound.
Beneath the swirling layered mass you’ll find soulful record in
Give You the Ghost that despite all the manipulation of Casselle’s
vocals she manages to convey a bluesy-soul adding depth to Polica’s
music, making for an album that’s both majestic and sultry.
